All too often we hear of people blaming the removalist for damages or losses caused to their Household Effects and being dissatisfied in not getting their supposed worth for their damaged Items claimed. Removalists through their insurers only really need to offer up an indemnity value (or a Wear & Tear based Item value) if at all where customers Household Effects are damaged or lost and as such; we often hear of people out of pocket and extremely disappointed with the overall Moving service. Which is ashame for all parties concerned, given Removalists mostly do their best to provide a good service and customers just want to get to their new home without the extra headaches.
Basically then, if a Removalist is not directly at fault with Damage or Loss to customers goods, then a customers claim for compensation can be very low or not offered up at all.
Even to the point where if you make a claim against your Removalist, they themselves have an Excess on their own insurance of between $500-$2,000 which they may not wish to accept in paying either. All we are saying is, it can get very messy, working out who did what, when and how....
We don’t wish the problem upon anyone hence why we advocate for customers to take Insurance themselves for their Household Effects and not rely on the removalist on what can potentially go very wrong.
Damages like;
There is a misconception and an expectation by those customers moving that any Removalist they contact should accept all responsibility for Loss or damage caused during a move and even to a further extent whilst your Goods are held in Storage.
Not always the case or can be very difficult to prove, so here are more Good Reasons why you should consider CARTS Insurance:-
Our CARTS policy allows you to notify us of your Contents being damaged, up to 45 days from the date of delivery allowing you time to discover any damages that were caused during the move and perhaps whilst in held in Storage. Often this time is needed when arriving to a new location and your Removalist may not be obliging in accepting such damages after a lengthy delay in notifying them.
An example of this is could be a 5 year old fridge that is visibly damaged (beyond repair) whilst being Unloaded from the removalist truck & the original purchase price 5 years ago was $1,000. Understandably the removalist may only offer a contribution of anywhere between $1-$500 depending on its prior condition.
A CARTS policy would offer a Replacement value if the item could not be repaired) with a similar make & model fridge or having to purchase it brand new and the fridge is more to replace.
THAT’S ONE ITEM. WHAT IF THE WHOLE TRUCKLOAD OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD CONTENTS WAS DESTROYED! WHAT THEN
Think about this scenario. You get to your new residence, but your Contents do not……
Our policy provides Temporary Accommodation for you and your family to $250 per day up to 30 days if your Contents have not been Delivered due to Loss or Damage covered by our policy. Even though these costs are for Accommodation only, such costs can go a long way towards affording other would be essentials such as a TV, Table & Chairs, etc. during a disruptive period.
Where a removalist takes all care & precautionary measures to ensure your Contents arrive safely, if the Contents have to sit in their truck overnight or in Storage for over a long period of time, unfortunate events out of the Removalists hands can occur.
If you are aware and can recall the type of goods you were moving through an Inventory list prior to the move, it’s peace of mind to know that we can assist with such explained or unexplained losses occurring.
We can provide you with an Inventory Checklist or ask your Removalist who should be able to assist you to arrange.
By taking a CARTS policy your claim would be handled by the insurer within 48 hours of your report.
Broadspire, a division of Crawford & Company (assessors), will assess & manage your claim, arrange Repair or Replacement of the damaged Contents where necessary and ensure your claim is handled appropriately.
As Insurance Specialists our aim is to ensure you are not inconvenienced in the event of a mishap or an unforeseen event during the move. Furthermore we have been supported by one of Australia’s largest insurers in AM&T since 2005 and we have been a recognised service to many customers over this time.
Whilst a Removalist is there to take care of your Contents so loss or damage does not occur during a move, it’s when an unfortunate incident arises where you will need us the most.
We do understand the concerns of a Customer about to move and welcome you to make enquiries through us.
